We are considering CBT for DS 11 who suffers from OCD and so wondering if any MNers can share their experiences of even recommend a very good CBT therapist.

yes, for sn dc. It is all about working towards the future, and finding solutions to achieve the goals.

So quite a way from delving through all the problems of the past.

Where are you in the country?

If you don't want to say, feel free to PM

senvet sorry but I didn't understand your post. Do you have a doc with OCD? I'll pm.

This will totally out me but I name change regularly. CBT has been life-changing for us.

DS2 (11) has general anxiety disorder, depression and was suicidal before he started going to CBT; all underpinned by his ridiculously high levels of anxiety. We have been going for over 18 months privately - every three weeks or so. Our therapist (I stay) is amazing. DS2 will talk to her about things he avoids like the plague elsewhere, even though he finds it really hard. She can reframe things for him and with him that utterly stymie me/him.

I always thought it was a short-term intervention but that is for very specific situations and we are now using it as a long-term therapy, given DS's mental health issues.

I'm really glad to hear about people's positive experiences. Ds's preoccupation with 'diseases' has just started and we're very worried.
Poltergoose thanks for sharing about your 'hotch potch' methods Smile it's useful as parents to also know what we can do at home to support doc when confronted with it, you can't always say, 'we'll see the therapist in 3 weeks time' iyswim.

Are there actual 'CBT therapists' or is it a Clinical Psychologist that needs to be engaged? our CAMHS have a CP.

Hi my ds has OCD in the past very severely. He also has Asperger's Syndrome and I will be honest, it hasn't been easy for him to engage in CBT.
However once he got to see a very skilled clinical psychologist CBT made an enormous difference and he is much better now although not completely OCD free.

His treatment was on the NHS. His OCD was sufficient severe for him to need inpatient treatment. I don't know much about private treatment but I would say go for a clinical psychologist although CBT is offered by others. You would also need to check their experience with OCD. There is a tendency to think treatment for OCD is straight forward but actually you need someone who knows what they are doing.

Nohaudin thanks for sharing your experience, it's very useful reading other people's journey with this.
