Finally listening to my worries of Tourette's and Dyspraxia, but paediatrician wants to come to the house??

I got the letter through, they have come to 'listen to my concerns and assess' DS. Great, I thought, after 18 months of going to the SENCO and GP, someone is finally bloody listening.

But they want to see him here, at home. Which was fine, then it suddenly dawned on me how odd that is.

How all other paediatrician appointments for my other son (health issues asthma etc) have been in hospital.

Why would they want to come to the house for this, I'm suddenly freaking out that they want to check my home and his welfare!

I've got nothing to hide, he is well, adjusted, happy and we have a healthy environment but I do get cross and shout sometimes and now I'm freaking out that they think he's at risk or something!

Help!

Not quite the same - never had paediatrician rock up at home, but have had a lot of assessments at home by many professionals. (Health and social care) Just how they do it here, though also have many clinic appointments too... Variety is the spice of life.

Home visits are much more relaxed and the children were much more natural and themselves at home, as clinics always stress them being unfamiliar.

Helped them to assess difficulties in the home and able to offer practical solutions (in terms of OT as they could see the issue and environment and could offer practical solutions that worked.)

Try not to worry. It takes a while, but we're so used to home visits now (social workers from disability team, salt, ot, therapists, specialist nurse, psychotherapist etc) that I don't even scurry around tidying up before any more!

They really are not interested in your dust bunnies!

You may find it isn't the paediatrician but a specialist nurse / ot who does the initial home assessment. If you're concerned, call them and clarify exactly who is coming. May just set your mind at rest, but I really would try not to panic.
