SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Does this sound like there's SN stuff going on here?

Opinions please people: 5 yr old has spent the last hour getting increasingly distraught as he can't draw one of the Angry Birds. Basically it's a triangle, but he's insisting it has to be precise (not bumpy edges, points in the right places, no lines too long etc), that's before he's even started on the face. He's been through 25+ blank postcards, all with completely recogniseable triangles imo. He's so upset - I can't seem to explain that a) it doesn't matter if something isn't perfect - things look different every time etc and b) he's doing it just fine.
I'm so sad for him that he's suffering like this - it happens every time he tries something new and it makes him anxious about trying new things (anything from drawing something, to getting on a bike etc). Is he just a perfectionist or is there something else going on here?

Dear dc.

He has a rule in his head about how it has to be. The real Angry Birds are probably done on a computer programme - like that advert with the kid making a cartoon with the bank's helpline staff (moonwalking, dancing)

My ds had a batman cartoon maker programme he loved at that age.

Or maybe switch to something he can definitely enjoy and succeed at in his mind

Hope this helps

Oh and yes, the anxiety is an AEN in itself, but getting under the cause sounds well worth looking into
