My daughter is 17 with severe learning difficulties, she is due to have a day case operation soon and the Dr raised this today about her consenting and asked if we had it. Is this what we should apply for before she is 18? TIA

I have no idea. Maybe if you post this on the legal board, a legal bod would be able to help you?

I did this morning! Thanks.

I think you need to apply to the Court of Protection for Deputyship. You can google it and get help direct or maybe your social worker can help?

We are currently going through the process of Deputyship and I found that social workers knew very little about it. We have ended up using a specialist solicitor. It is costing quite a bit of money and takes quite a while to get it done.

Bouncesky, could you pm me the approximate costs and timescale if you don't want to post here.

Thanks Davros, that does seem the route to go.
