How do others find their disabled children team? Helpful? Supportive? I am struggling with ours as they are providing unlawful advice and rather than being supportive, are causing us more stress. just wondered if I am alone or this is common?

Common. They seem to think that it is their job to protect all money for 'those who really need it' without every having any criteria for defining 'those who really need it'.

Any evidence found that you might be one of 'those who really need it' then their reaction is to blame you for being one of 'those who really need it' and tell you it is up to you alone to make sure you are no longer one of 'those who really need it' or they will 'take things further'. They may then even imply that they are raising your situation to child protection if you make a fuss.

OMG. You have put this so well. I don't know how they can get away with the way they behave, or how they can live with themselves when they are in the 'caring profession'. We adopted a little girl who has trauma from her early life, which is well documented. Even than, this team wants to not look beyond parenting skills to understand the deeper layers of trauma. I am so taken aback by their responses for support to help overcome some of these difficulties.............

The last time I saw a local authority willfully follow the letter of the law in its dealings with disabled children without prompting was 2003. That's 12 years ago. It's so long ago, The Darkness were still a thing, FFS. They were still making episodes of Friends.

You'll get a near-100% expression of solidarity on here. Almost all of us are here because we're fighting the fight, or because we've fought and want to help others win.

But this isn't an artificial echo chamber - in RL, despite the change to the law, I don't know anyone with a recent happy story to tell who hasn't had to grind themselves into powder in the process.

i hadn't realized how much of a problem this was. I have 'in battle' with DCT for 5 years now and only just thought of coming on to this site. I have gone through all three stages of complaints and currently with local government ombudsman, who also seems to be 'in bed' with Children's services. Even though the Stage 3 upheld there was disability discrimination, the LA didn't do anything about it.
How corrupt can it all get??
Someone must have gone to the press with their story.

We are getting some DPs at the moment, following on from all the complaints, although the LA is insistent on having another assessment which I suspect is to try and reduce the package being offered, which they would not have any right to do but I suspect they will try anyway, and i would have to go through the complaints procedures again to challenge it.
Has anyone else heard of Steve Broach's (barrister) twitter. he does excellent snippets of the law in everyday language - one of them being on CSDPA, another on judicial review, and lots of others
Well done zzzzz for getting there in the end - r they trying to micromanage how you use your DPs?

Mine are fab. They stopped my DP without telling me, i just got a letter out if the blue asking for any money back that was left in the DP account. I pay for respite out of DS's DLA now because they are trying to force me to have a CAF and TAC to restart them. I don't want or need a CAF and TAC and last time i had one it was a complete waste of time.
