Has anyone received dla without a diagnosis? My 4 year old daughter has had a psychological report done in school tests have come back with severe autism, adhd and learning problems, I've been advised to apply for dla which I have, received a letter yesterday saying they have got the forms and to wait 8 weeks. Panicking now as I have filled them in myself Sad

hello, I claimed DLA for ds before he had been assessed and diagnosed. He was awarded middle rate care for 2 years. I had quite a lot of reports I sent as backup to the form and they processed the claim really quickly.

CallMeAntigone · 31/03/2015 17:35

Yes my DS did. Like tacal I sent in lots of reports eg SALT and nursery showing his developmental delay and paediatrician letter outlining suspected ASD. He was awarded same level and my DD who does have an ASD diagnosis.

Yes i got DLA for DS before he was diagnosed with ASD. I sent in his statement and ed psych, salt and ot reports. I got MRC and LRM. I filled in the forms myself and had no problems. School said that DLA office rang them and asked them some questions and they were fine about it as it was school who told me to apply in the first place.

Hopefully the ed psych report will be enough, especially as you've been advised to apply. It sounds like it's strongly worded, which will definitely be a plus. Presumably the school will strongly back your application? I think it's fairly standard for the DLA people to contact the school - certainly that happened in our case. Could your GP help too if necessary?

Can you get OT involved for your daughter, or are they one of the services that your school has referred you to with the long waiting list? Are you in a position to get a private OT/paed referral and report if you aren't successful with your DLA claim?

Good luck. The strong wording of the ed psych report will hopefully be enough. I filled in my son's form myself and we were successful - he did have two 'smaller' diagnoses already, but his 'major' diagnosis was made long after we started receiving DLA. x

Hey, yeah the educational phycologist report basically backs up everything I've said. Was horrible reading it because it's 13 pages of negative behaviour. The school should back me up too as they where the ones who got the phycologist in. We've been told lately that a lot of refusals ( for autism ) from schools are just getting rejected its shocking!

I got DLA for my son age 6 before he got his diagnosis. I was quite green in those days and didn't make a good job of the forms, so first time the claim was rejected but I got an award after reconsideration. I had very little professional information to submit and the initial claim only included a letter from the HV, the school's IEP (which was crap) and some informal emails from people expressing concerns at his behaviour.

But even at reconsideration I didn't have much in the way of professional documents so the additional evidence I submitted was still informal - short reports from leaders of groups he attended (swimming, football, karate) to illustrate how hard he was to manage in those settings.

If your claim does get rejected you ask DWP for a Statement Of Reasons, which is a written account of where you didn't get points awarded. You can then go through (as I did) and describe those points in greater detail. You'll be surprised at how much you might have missed.

Did you use the Cerebra guide? here ? Also if you PM me with an email address I can send you a guide I wrote for a local support group, with tips on making a successful claim. You might not need it but it's worth being prepared just in case you don't get it this time around.

Sahkoora · 01/04/2015 09:35

My DS got his before he had a diagnosis, although he was quite a way through the process so we had a fair bit of evidence to support it.

ash106602 · 01/04/2015 12:08

Yeah I used the cerebra guide to fill it in Smile, hopefully it won't take to long and I can be put out of my misery

I've put in a claim for DLA for my eight year old dd. Aside from a diagnosis of mild tourrettes syndrome she has no diagnosis. She does have an ados next week for ASD.

I sent off the two peadiatrcian letters from the past two years, the latter one detailing her issues in more depth then the first one, sent a copy of her statement, and the reports from behaviour support team and the EP for said statement.

Sent of the claim pack which was received on the 20th march so it's just a waiting game for us now. I plan to call them Tuesday if anything gets diagnosed when did has her ados.

bitbap18 · 01/04/2015 14:37

I did my daughter's one before formal diagnosis, but we'd had verbal confirmation before that. I used the celebra guide and I barely sent any info with it, as I had very little relevant info at that point. I gave as much detail as I possibly could in the form and filled it in like they would have no knowledge of ASD or Hypermobility. We got her award through within three weeks and awarded middle rate care and low mobility until she is 16 (she's just turned 7). Do not delay applying, the whole point of DLA is that you do not have to have a confirmed diagnosis of anything at all, just the child has to have more difficultly in some way than a child of the same age.

xenzani · 01/04/2015 22:01

I got a text today that dd has been awarded DLA. As in my previous post, no diagnosis aside from tourrettes.

The statement, reports and pead letters must have been enough. I had worried as after I sent the form back I kept remembering the things I should have but didn't put down.

They must be dealing with claims quickly atm. Mine was revived 3 days after yours so I might here soon Blush nervous x

I got middle rate care for DS2 when he was 6 months old before his diagnosis. We had to renew it every year though.

ash106602 · 07/04/2015 17:40

Yeah she was awarded MRC and LRM :) very happy x
