Anyone changed their minds regarding secondary schools after the cut off?

Does anyone have any experience of changing their minds over which secondary school their dc went after the cut off for submissions but before they started?
Ds has Asd and I was told in yr5 Sen review that I should send him to a mainstream secondary with a provision (same set up as he is in now). The problem from the start really was there is only one and it is a faith school. After getting reassurances from everyone including the provision head of said school that ds would not be forced to perform acts of worship I went on and named it.
Now the council are flapping about as to wether my ds has a provision place (apparently he is doing 'too well' to have it despite the only reason that he is doing well is because he has been supported fantastically within a provision at primary!) and the school itself are now insisting that he MUST perform acts of worship.
I'm ready to burn bridges at the meeting I have been summoned to by the secondary schools head that I have in a few weeks given that the only (ONLY) reason I selected that school rather then wing it with a good senco in a mainstream without a provision is because of the provision place.
Sorry, I don't mean to rant so I'll stop but I would like to hear if anyone has ever changed their minds over their dc's named on statement secondary school and if it was ok.
Should say ds doesn't particulary want to go to this school either so I'm not going to break his heart if I change schools at this stage.

Thanks in advance

does it now name his school and the unit in his statement? as it will mean of course if you do change your mind then the statement will also need to be changed. I don't think many parents do change this last probably due to the hassle it causes but im sure some parents will have done it - the problem I guess is where is the alternative and does that alternative have places available. If you are having second thought then deffo best to get them aired now and try to resolve it before September.

im the other way and currently have no school named yet for sept but that's a whole different scenario!!

My friend did. She found a school she thought was better and they had a place, checked they could meet her needs, and as it was maintained and they offered a place, then job done.

It has all worked out pretty well although there was some problem with transport at the start

There is often this argument as to whether the amount of provision has done the job and is acting like a crutch that can be removed after a bit, or whether the provision is still needed and if you take the crutch away the child will come crashing down.

ASD is a lifelong thing and is likely to impact secondary far more than primary. In secondary there is so much more noise, the body language comes thicker and faster, and just the change and transition itself is likely to be a challenge, more so than for nt kids.

They are trying it on but they are completely out of their minds, and possibly setting dc up to fail. DC should start with the same amount of support, if not more.
