Ear muffs for ds?

Before I start with my post, just want to say I read SN threads everyday but rarely feel my contributions are worthy so tend to say nothing and just read instead. I'm not one to only come on mumsnet when I have a problem but with my absence of posts it might look like that.

Anyway, here I go with another question!!!

I need to get hold of some ear muffs for my ds, he seems to be becoming more sensitive to noise, something that I never really thought was a problem for him, but lately it's becoming more apparent. He's aware of and becomes easily upset if any child ridicules him, so I need to find a pair that is not the huge type that I'm envisaging. Does anyone know where I can get some from?

I don't I'm afraid - my son has developed a similar problem and in the winter he wears a hat with ear flaps, which seems to help a bit. Mind you, he is only 4 and doesn't notice other kids' reactions, so this may not be suitable for your son if he's older. My friend puts cotton wool in her son's ears!

I don't think anyone minds occasional posting, do they? Hope not! .

I could try cotton wool but I've got a feeling that will just irritate my ds. It's only a problem once a week in an indoor area, which is particularly noisy, but unfortunately the noise is just affecting him too much, too hot indoors for earmuffs but thanks for the suggestion sphil.

With my threads, I just felt that I was just taking all the time without giving anything back IYKWIM.

I'll take a look in the chemists, that's worth checking out. When someone first mentioned getting earmuffs to help my ds, I just immediately thought of those big furry things

www.enhancedhearing.co.uk

earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/ejuearmu.html
3rd one is rather american, sorry, but has a sizable section of junior products.
If ear plugs seem to work you can get custom plugs made that should work even better and be less noticable.
Lots of sound engineers and lighting techs have these for work at festivals and concerts etc.

Thanks for that unisarah

Yesterday I went and bought a pair of kiddies ear defenders, he saw a picture and liked the look of them and seemed keen on the idea, even though they are bright lime colour and seem rather big. When I tried to speak to him about using ear plugs he just screamed and ran out of the room, so ear defenders it is.
