Which is more important at school-speech progression or behaviour?

My ds (6) has asd and recently diagnosed ADD. The meds worked fine at school (medikinet xl) but have stopped helping him with his attention span lately. I have noticed on no meds my ds is becoming much more verbal but with the meds it's one it 2 words but you can tell a clear difference without them. Saying that, his ta can tell when he's not on them as he is also quite "busy" as she puts it. Now because the meds aren't currently helping with work time I'm having second thoughts about any meds. Only because he seems so much more verbal - and trying to say more, without them. Easter breaks here now - we obviously don't have work time at home, and I'm tempted to keep him off them at home then at school if they're not helping with work time. What would you all do? Speech progression is more important i think then behaviour?

I'd agree - manageable behaviour makes life easier for school, but language is a real value in long term and short term happiness.

Is there any other meds you could try? My ds is a busy non verbal toddler. I think he we could understand each other life would still be busy but I'd feel like I knew him better and could help him more.

But I guess that's just because is love to hear my ds say anything. So much is based on communication.

If unsure I always go with my gut feeling

Thanks everyone. We are limited because my ds can't take tablets- we can only go down the route of methylphenidate because we can open the capsules.
It's a small dose of 10mg and we've tried different brands with the same outcome. I think for school it certainly makes his behaviour more "controlled" (hence I thought the learning would be easier), but It's now not helping the attention side of things, that seems to be the problem.
So, the big "plus" was the attention side but now that's not the case, I'm debating on what the benefit is.

Going with gut feel and I don't like him on it- mainly because I notice much more language without it on weekends. I probably just need to understand from school what "they" think it helps with during his day there, which I'll do when we get back.
