Selective eating disorder

Hi, I'm quite new on this board. My 12 year old dd has mild dyspraxia and some sensory issues which mainly affect her eating. We have struggled for years with food, I used to think she was just fussy and it caused a lot of stress.

Now I understand it a bit better, things are less stressful but she isn't showing any signs of improvement. She definitely has a problem with textures of things rather than taste. Now she's older SHE finds it frustrating and wishes she could eat more foods.

Someone told me about Selective Eating Disorder - www.the-heath.co.uk/treatment/selective-eating-disorder-sed.php

Just wondering if anyone has any personal experience of this SED practitioner. He works at a clinic in London. It's expensive but I am happy to pay if it's reputable and is likely to get results.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

My ds has a food phobia.

Sorry I don't have any advice about this practitioner. Hopefully others will as it does sound good.

The only thing I have tried with ds is oral motor exercises from the occupational therapist to decrease sensitivity in the mouth. I have also read that coloured lenses in glasses can help adjust the senses. We have an appointment next week to see if coloured lenses will help but I am doubtful.

My DC has just been diagnosed with Avoidant Restricted Food Intake Disorder, so watching this thread with interest as I don't really know how to move forward this this.

DD14 literally eats chicken nuggets ,pasta, grapes, sausage rolls and thats it.She gags at anything else and would rather starve than try . So many times i've heard "When shes hungry enough she will" not my DD she has no appetite so doesn't care! She doesn't even like cake Shock

tacal we've talked before .. 3 of my dc wear coloured lens glasses .. they alter tastes for ds. He has to take them off to eat certain sweets/foods as they taste worse when wearing his glasses. Most things taste better when wearing them. Bizarre but true.
OP .. My dd sounds very similar to yours .. I've not found a solution yet.

Dancer I have not heard of your practitioner and no only one sensory OT - I can definitely recommend her but of course there may be plenty of others out there. [email protected]

Polter has a sensory needs info thread on these boards as well

frazzled it is really bizarre to think putting on glasses can change the taste of things. I am very excited to be seeing Ian Jordan soon to see if the coloured lenses will help ds.
