No you aren't.

First you can ring the National Autistic Society 0808 800 4102 and ask to be allocated an education volunteer to help you sort out the provision your son is entitled to right now, and also for school in September. Their helpline volunteers are all trained in both SEN law and into ASD/ASC/Aspergers/HFA. You leave a message and they call you back.

Once they are allocated, the volunteer will help you with all the letters, emails etc to get what you are entitled to.

The whole thrust of SEN law is early intervention, and your ds needs to learn how to do 'mainstrem speak' in order to navigate a mainstream world.

Many kids with Aspergers (or HFA OR ASC ASD ) also have some sensory issues, eg my relatives - one has high sensitivity to touch so wears her t shirts inside out and one has high sensitivity to noise so puts his hands over his ears when several people were talking in a car as it sounded so loud.

Those issues are for a good sensory Occupational Thaerapist (OT),

Can you, and my fingers are crossed here, afford a report from an independent salt as to what ds needs at school in September, and indeed what he needs at nuursery NOW? We are talking £600 ish for a report I think.

Or do you have some grandparents standing by wanting to help but not knowing how, who might help with the cost?

Another option is the Bedgebury Foundation if you live in Kent Sussex way - check the website for geographical restrictions.

Anyway, for most people the answer is 'no' so I would apply for an Education Health and Social Plan which is a replacement for the old Statement of SEN, and the NAS volunteers are trained to help you with exactly that.

For help on day to day issues that arise have a look on Mumsnet unser the child tab - at the bottom there is an option to chat about your child, and that is where there are loads of mums and dads to help you through the day to day issues with both dcs schools and Local Authorities and you will pick up a lot of tips just reading those.

See you on the other board, and good luck with NAS

Thank you will definitely give them a ring! He's such a great boy testing at times but wouldn't have him any other way.
