DD is 6, was assessed by EP back in October, possible ADD, and possible ASD/anxiety etc. Suggested multi disciplinary team to assess, GP referred to CAMHS, CAMHS say only deal with 'moderate to severe' (er, we don't know because she hasn't been fully assessed), and to get assessment of need, But Assessment of Need is for under 5s, and they will just send the form back. So 6 months on and we have got precisely nowhere...

Did CAMHS write to you to say they only took moderate to severe or did your GP tell you. I haven't heard that at all and know lots of kids who attend them. AON is not just for under 5's, older children can be seen by them too and you can self refer. If you got a report from the EP I would include that when sending in application for AON.
CAMHS in Dublin (Lucena) will diagnose ASD but won't then do any treatments, my 15 year old was diagnosed with ASD and anxiety/OCD by them last year and since the diagnosis they won't give her any therapies as ASD is not in their remit. It's really annoying.
There is a facebook Autism Mamaí page you can also join, it's private but you'd get loads of advice there (hope I'm allowed to say that admins).

thanks APMom - the GP sent on the letter that CAMHS sent to her. The public health nurse checked with the AON form and said that it could be used for over 5s, but GP seemed to think differently. SO I guess we may as well send it and see what happens

My son (10) had AON done just last August. He was referred by a speech and language therapist. He was assessed in Marion House in Cork by a multi disciplinary team. I think at the time of our referral the rules stated any child born on or after june 2002 could get AON. That guideline may have moved or changed. Good luck with everything.

thank you - that's very useful. OK, so, we will keep at it!
