We have a 11 yr ASD non-verbal son who has recently started a birmingham secondary special school(non-asd). At the beginning all was okay but over the last couple of months challenging and self injurious behaviours has been steadily increasing(school logs) which also includes aggression towards staff and peer group.
He often puts up high resistance when asked to exit our car not to go in to school and is sometimes tearful too.
We are so worried about the escalating anxiety signs that he displaying, by nature is very out-going, loveable and social child.
The school do acknowledge our concerns but don't seem to acknowledge any problems in meeting his needs. I have very little faith in the school reversing these behaviours, so a reversal in this current trajectory is looking bleak. Clearly if these behaviours are increasing this should equate to failing to meet needs?
We have called for an annual review set for the end of the month and could really do with some assistance from an advocate to strengthen our case for his ABA consultant to be part of his provision working with school.
We are not asking for ABA per-se but for BCABA analyst who has nearly four history of working with our son to be part of the team. The school have refused our request with lack of funding as the reason.
