DLA claim how long?!

Emily34austin · 13/03/2015 11:20

I applied for DLA for my DD a couple of weeks ago just wondered roughly how long it takes for a decision? I didn't provide much evidence wise as mid house move but gave permission for them to contact all agencies working with DD .

Ours was received 20th Feb, decision made on 5th March. I too put very little evidence, as didn't have much that was relevant, without confusing matters, but they still did it, and awarded until DD (7) is 16 years old too.

The fastest mine has been was two weeks. The longest was over 6mths but that was due to an admin error that we got an apology for.

I'm waiting for a reply at the moment. They received the form on the 22nd or 23rd of Feb and no news yet.

Good luck.

Thats much quicker than I thought possible thats really good . I'm not sure DD will qualify but was advised to try .

Same time as me ! its my first claim so assuming it may take a while longer.

Was a first claim here too, and I wasnt 100% about qualifying, and certainly expected them to ask for more info. I think our MP may have written to them too, due to other issues he's been helping with.

ds's sent in January and we had the decision acouple oif weeks ago. about a month I think. sent dd's last week and only had a texty saying they had received it and it was going to be up to 8 weeks for a decision.

JJXM · 13/03/2015 15:31

Our first claim was turned around in 10 days.

Our renewal was sent off and received mid January and we got a decision on Monday. However, the customer service advisor I spoke to at the DWP said they had a massive backlog and my renewal hadn't even been looked at (2nd March) but got the decision less than four days later.

I think it depends on the straightforwardness of your claim - we had reams of evidence from professionals and it probably took a decision maker a short amount of time to turn ours around especially as DS goes to a SS for SLD. However, what the DWP class as straightforward is anyone's guess.

adrianna22 · 13/03/2015 16:58

It took them 5 months for me. Hmm

Emily34austin · 13/03/2015 17:19

Oh no Shock . Was that just how long it took or further info needed etc?! Was that recently. I am just impatient I don't think we will qualify but be nice to know.

I applied for DS is September got declined in November asked for the reconsideration and was approved 2 weeks back. So 6 months from start to finally getting it.

chocnomorechoc · 14/03/2015 10:01

OP, whenever you apply for DLA just provide as much evidence as possible. relying in the dwp to collect the information is a bad strategy from my exoerience. if you are turned down and ask for a reconsideration, just get any evidence out you have.

from my experience I can tell you that the dwp looks for excuses not to pay and not providing evidence really only plays into their hands.

hi, I sent my forms away the last week in January and received the award notice today! I was thinking about phoning them next week if I had not heard anything.

I received a letter acknowledging receipt of the forms a couple of weeks after I sent them and then the award letter today.

Good luck op.

Emily34austin · 14/03/2015 17:11

Did you send loads of evidence? Wish I'd waited now till i'd gathered evidence

bitbap18 · 14/03/2015 19:03

Emily34austin, I sent virtually nothing with mine. However I used celebra's advice guide for filling in the form, and gave lots of detail, examples and filled every space in the form, and more. Each claim is looked at separately so for some evidence will be needed but some not.

chocnomorechoc · 14/03/2015 19:37

I think it is important to back up your claims on the form (and yes to the cerebra guide, I couldn't have done it without).

As for evidence, I send it my childs statement of Sen (she has full time 1:1), paed letters, Salt assessments, OT assessments, EP assessments. Dd is severely autistic and I was still turned doen twice and only got the DLA award aftee our appeal.

chocnomorechoc · 14/03/2015 19:40

Seems to be also a bit of a lottery depending who is assessing the claim. Really surprised to read that some got it without much evidence given the battle we had.

Emily34austin · 14/03/2015 20:50

It does seem to be a bit like the lottery ! DD is a teen she has adhd (diagnosed) ASD traits and severe anxiety. Compared to others her age she requires a lot of support in no way shape or form even attempting independence .She has no time management is so disorganised unless its tied to her its lost, needs supervising and reminders to do anything required day to day, her anxiety and avoidance is really bad I have a fight daily to get her into school/keep her there and she is pretty much on the phone the whole time shes there. School are fed up with her so its a permanent battle of me vs the world Grin.
I thought I'd apply (felt guilty over it for ages no idea why) nothing to lose but not holding out much hope.

Emily you can send extra evidence if you have any in now they will them attach it to your claim.

tacal · 15/03/2015 07:57

Yes I sent a lot of evidence. They said they used the reports I sent plus what I wrote on the form to make the award. Agree with other posters if you have any evidence now you should send it to them as it may help. Good luck.

Baby0304 · 05/08/2018 19:47
