my dd has hypermobility which results in poor handwriting after a bit as her hands and posture tire

ds has dyslexia which makes his writing like a drunken spider.

My DH has helpfully said to both that he doesn't write from one week to the next except to sign letters. Handwriting is vastly over-rated in some schools.

Both dc learned to touch type. If it had been back in my day they would have been dictating to someone to write on their behalf (which I did).

I use dragon dictate a bit, and one poster on here uses it a lot as well - for dyslexia reasons I think by my memory is a cobwebbed as my ds's handwriting

Lots of options.

What stage is your dc at?

DS2 is 13, in Year 8, with ASD & ADHD and at a mainstream school.

His handwriting has not improved since Year 4, and it was bad even then. It is about 50% legible. Several of his teachers are unable to read it.

He has tried every type of pen and had every handwriting intervention you can imagine, the only helpful thing is that he has been taught to touch type.

His paediatrician said that the handwriting is due to mild hypermobility/hypotonia and is not likely to improve at this stage.

He starts his GCSE courses in September; I have requested that he be allowed to type all controlled assessments and exams.

I thought it couldn't be dysgraphia because the content of the writing is fine (vocabulary, sentence structure, spelling all good) but will go and do some more research.

DS physio stated it was roo able he had dysgraphia.
But he said needs full ot assessment as he has general hypotonia and fine motor co ordination dysfunction.

Ds has a scribe at school for some things and it's making a difference for him.

Would she be happy to learn to touch type?
