Ear defenders for children with Asperger's

One of DDs biggest issues is noise as she has hyperaccuis as well as Asperger's. Debating about getting some ear defenders to see if this helps in some circumstances.

I've seen these and they seem to have good reviews, but just wondering if anyone has tried them? Can they still hear someone talking to them through them, but they just block loud noise?

Any other recommendations?

DS has got some Peltor kids ones and he likes them.
He had some standard cheap ones before and said the didn't work and refused to wear them but he has actually asked to wear the Peltor ones when out and about so they must be good!

They are quite adjustable too, the ones you have shown!

My friends little girl wears her a lot outside the house.

Dd3 has some too, not the same brand. She wears them if there are fireworks around or if it rains on our tent as she hates the sound!

I would go for it, they are a cheap solution to a very stressful problem!

Good luck Flowers

My DD is very nearly 7, so hopefully would be big enough.

The Peltor ones seem like they might be too small, as only meant to go up at age 7?

We use the edzkidz ones and they have been great fitted my boy from aged 4 and still fit now at 8. They are really strechy and can fit a young child or an adult. They reduce the sound by around 50% my ds uses them in many circumstances but can still hear instuctions etc.

DS is 10 and has a big head (has been too big for kids glasses since age of 6!) and they fit him fine. They are adjustable.

Everydayaschoolday · 01/03/2015 20:15

My DDs (nearly 4 and nearly 7) have EdzKidz and we use them for Pantos, air shows and fireworks etc. They block out the loud noise, but you can still hear a conversation through them. They do make a fantastic difference. I can get them on my head, so they do stretch. Recommended.

Ds 10 has those ones. They are very snug. He can still hear when he is being spoken to.

He doesn't like wearing them in school and he has now got, ear plugs with ear filters from the audiologist.

ilikemysleep · 02/03/2015 19:45

ear defenders should only be worn sparingly and in very loud situations (like a fireworks event!) as they can make sensitivity worse when overused. just take care with them!

fairgame · 02/03/2015 19:52

Sometimes it's not loud noises that set off children with SN. DS is fine with fireworks but often wears his in restaurants because he finds the noise of lots of people talking very uncomfortable.

bitbap18 · 02/03/2015 19:53

Thanks ilikemysleep. That's the sort of situation I would use them. She's desperate to watch them, and loves to see the colours from home etc when it's that time of year, but we had a disterous attempt before and I don't dare repeat it again without trying something else, as ear muffs didn't block the noise enough!

ds wears ear defenders often. I bought some of the Ed kidz ones, but he prefers the cheap ones from screwfix that dh bought him - which fit better and work just as well!

Jacksterbear · 03/03/2015 10:18

We have the ones you've shown in your OP. They are great once on, but my 8yo DS does find them difficult to get on by himself, as you have to pull the 2 sides apart quite hard to open them up, iyswim.
