Hi, does anybody know if this can be purchased for the iPad now as I can't find it in the App Store. I know it can be used on a puffin browser but thought there was an app now too? Just want to check before purchasing. Thanks :)

Just to say good luck - I am a bit of a techno-dinosaur so don't understand several key words in your post. Sorry!

I can't find anything on their website but I'd suggest contacting them direct.

oso as far as I know there is an ipad app for the reading comprehension programme but the Early Reading requires Flash and Apple doesn't support it, you have to use it through the Puffin browser as you said. It can be a bit clunky on the ipad so make sure you have the latest software update. HTH.

Osospecial1 · 26/02/2015 20:12

Ah thanks all, Tambaboy this is how I used the free trial before (puffin browser on iPad) thought I had read on an old thread since that it was now available as an app so wanted to check before buying. Doesn't look like it though, I will download the latest update first then thanks :) (hope you are well btw have now been on here in sooo long)

I'm alright thanks for asking oso, pleased ds got his EHCP now. I hope your DD gets on with Headsprout. DS really enjoys it. He is currently repeating the episodes and his reading is slowly progressing.

Osospecial1 · 27/02/2015 15:54

Ah that's great Tambaboy :) dd has her statement and is in the school placement I wanted now so it's such a relief when you can stop fighting for things! We had the trial version of head sprout and dd was doing ok but didn't understand the verbal instruction as it progressed but hoping we will have more luck now her understanding is getting better

oso we did headsprout and found it really useful to pre-teach Dd concepts. E.g one of the tasks later on is along the lines of iirc "click on the one that does not say xy" once we had pre-taught the trickier concepts she was fine (Dd has Asd, a very severe s&l delay and learninf diffs) she was fine

Osospecial1 · 27/02/2015 20:23

Thanks choc yes that is exactly the kind of language that dd just does not get yet, she is still on one word instructions really. I suppose I could start pre teaching 'which is not' with simple things like 2 flash cards and 'which is not the car...?' She might pick that up now, what did you do to pre teach this?

chocnomorechoc · 27/02/2015 20:31

yes, that is pretty much how we did it. headsprout is fab but the language used for some of the instructions is way to advanced for children like ours. but as I said, pre-teaching worked for us.

chocnomorechoc · 27/02/2015 20:36

cannot remember what other staff I pretaught. we did it 1-2 years ago and since having Dd and loads of stress, I just cannot remember things anymore Blush

whrnever we came across a new instruction Dd did not get, I pre-taught it. luckily, a lot of the instructions (like thr touch the one which is not...) are used over and over again.

Osospecial1 · 27/02/2015 20:44

Ha don't worry I know the feeling, my memory is terrible Blush
Dd loves games on the iPad but if she doesn't understand the question or even if she does she is so impulsive and just hits the buttons until she gets it right or just memorises which one it is from getting it right previously. Although I think this is where head sprout is supposed to be good at recognising when a skill is actually mastered and they can move on? We will def try it anyway, she is 5 now, 6 in sep so need to start teaching her some reading skills.
