How do I find it? I should just google. I'm writing a formal complaint about my tribunal and I want him to see it.

My la are notoriously bad for ignoring me which means it will be quite easy to then forward it onto LGO

After my school now telling me they want to charge me for my indi slt to go in, I can't sit back any more

On indie slt being charged WOW
Is it to do an assessment for a tribunal?
If so your human rights entitle you to equal access to evidence so they cannot refuse. If they were charging every specialist to go in, then maybe, but otherwise, nope they are wrong

2boysnamedR · 24/02/2015 11:42

No it's not for tribunal, she has been going in and providing his only slt ( he has a severe speech disorder and over three years delayed) as he gets no nhs input. Now they want to charge her for room hire.

I think I might cc him in on my complaint letter. I don't have the statement yet. But I'm fed up of this silly game.

It seems we are all playing games. I can't dictate the rules but I might raise the stakes.

I want to stop them from torturing me

OP posts:
senvet · 24/02/2015 11:59

Bananas. They should be so grateful that the tax payer isn't footing the bill.

Do they actually hire this room out, or is it just a broom cupboard?

2boysnamedR · 24/02/2015 12:08

They sent me their letting policy today - first time I have seen it!

OP posts:
fairgame · 24/02/2015 17:14

That's disgraceful 2boys! How the hell can they justify charging when they would let an nhs salt in for free?
Disgusting attitude and behaviour once again from your school and LA. How on earth you have managed not to torture and bury them all under the school field is beyond me.

2boysnamedR · 24/02/2015 17:34

Something inside me snapped. I wrote quite a sarcastic complaint. Oh dear, school was mentioned too. Shame Angry

senvet · 24/02/2015 17:41

Well you had better ask for the cost of all the other rooms that they hire out, including the broom cupboard.....

Maybe you could ask the cost of pitching a small tent on the field for dc's sessions! Or parking a camper van on the driveway?

Do any music teachers and clubs pay for the same facilities? If you can catch them being unfair on you it would make the argument easier.

Has you expert ever been charged anywhere else?

You still have an appeal to go don't you? So this type of behaviour will shed them in a very poor light for that.

uggerthebugger · 24/02/2015 18:13

2boys, a couple of queries for you -

Is your DC at an academy or at an LA-maintained primary?

And do you know whether the LA owns the school buildings, or whether they're funded through a PFI deal?

2boysnamedR · 24/02/2015 18:27

I was wondering if they charge for music lesson hire. I asked my indi slt is she's charged elsewhere. Yet to reply but she was shocked so I'm guessing no.

It's a state primary. Not sure how the building is funded. Should I ask the head?

I'm quite happy to kick up a mess. I think it's my calling. It's turning into a career so why not make it fun?!

We won the tribunal to issue a statement three weeks ago.

You could ask the LA instead - you don't have to approach the Dementors you usually deal with, a separate department handles school finances and IME, they are usually pretty approachable on a simple question like this.

If it's LA-maintained, that's good. Academies get a lot more freedom over how they use school property, and they might be able to get away with something as eye-poppingly outrageous as this.

If it's PFI-funded, then there will be insanely strict rules over what the school can and cannot do with the buildings. You can't even put a pin in a wall without invoking three tiers of management permission in many PFI schools. A threat to check with the PFI provider whether this charging policy breaches the LA's contractual obligations should tighten a few sphincters.

If you are looking to declare war, then you could put in an FOI request to Ofsted, asking how much the school normally charges them for room hire during their Section 5 inspections, as you would like to compare their rate against the rate the school is quoting for delivery of legally-entitled SEN provision.... Grin

bighairyspider · 24/02/2015 22:47

Absolutely outrageous Shock. Name and shame (pm me as I can't remember your LA).
I have been looking at some model letting policies and found the following 'the actual cost to a school of any use of the premises must be reimbursed to the school's budget where those activities are not directly aimed at raising pupil attainment and achievement'.

I would argue that the service being provided by the Slt is helping a pupil to achieve within their school which surely is the aim of any school. Your LA should have a policy for the letting of educational premises so contact them first.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/02/2015 22:52

oh dear. this thread is filling me with the desire to get the cheer leading pom-poms out and wobble about a bit. I am, unfortunately, long past the high kicking and cartwheeling.

would having the salt at home be an option. you could contact eduational welfare and ask them for advice as you would prefer ds to be in school but he need treatment in school time and school are refusing to facilitate this.

contact ofsted too.

confused by your lack of salt provision. what the hell happened there?

2boysnamedR · 25/02/2015 00:01

Come on everyone give me some amo - whats the most poo thrown into a fan efficient way to deal with this?

We won are tribunal three weeks back. Been having private SLT at school since 2013 when NHS SLT dropped ds (not that he ever had and therapy - he was declared six months delayed but a few months later my private SLT assessed him and found him 3.5 years - yes YEARS delayed (he was six so half his LIFE - easy mix up, half your life, half a year.....)

Any hoo we won the appeal basically based partly because the NHS and school do zero re his lang disorder (no that's unfair - they did actually say it was untrue - based on their non assessement of him). School also did various other things - like ignore all OT so we had a big cards on table moment where school said they would step up - now this.

They are baiting me. How can I refuse such a tempting offer?

OP posts:
Nigel1 · 25/02/2015 08:17

Does the lettings policy describe what charge they impose on the NHS for any work that they do within the school? Are the NHS charged at all? If not then I would suggest that they are treating your child differently as a result of his disability to other children who are begin treated by the NHS which may be considered as being discriminatory?

2boysnamedR · 25/02/2015 09:07

I did email last night but that's a good point Nigel. If they do charge the nhs then I need that quoted in his provision costs don't i? So if he gets xyz of delegated funding - a good part if that goes on room hire surely? Grin

OP posts:
Nigel1 · 25/02/2015 10:26

Yes but the substantial point is "Why are you treating the NHS and private SLT differently?" That is the discrimination point.
