Applying for dla questions

Have had a few people ask me if I claim dla for dd2 so thinking of making a claim. Probably won't get anything but worth a try.

Anyway, evidence wise, would her last peadiatrician letter detailing what was discussed at that appointment and plan of action (referral for ADOS/CAMHS), would a copy of her statement and EP/behaviour support reports help at all?

Would it be worth applying now or wait until April after her ADOS?

Thanks in advance!

Do it now. When you see the forms, you'll see that you can detail the sort of extra care she needs, today. Supporting evidence will back this up, the reports/statement/paediatrician letter sound sufficient.

The form has a section for 'upcoming assessments' too, so the fact that she's having an ADOS done in April is relevant and helps your case and can be included on the form.

If the claim gets rejected then you can re-submit with more evidence from the ADOS, but it's the support needs, not the diagnosis, that will entitle you to DLA.

Go for it.

Handy woman and polter have summed it up. We've just submitted our claim. We have verbal diagnosis, but awaiting a couple of bits being finally ticked to get the paper statement.

Def call and ask for the form (takes about two weeks to arrive) but it is backdated to when asked for. Just watch the printed date, as the date is says we asked for it was wrong, and nearly two weeks later than the call date.

You don't need an actual or specific diagnosis for making a DLA claim. They even say to make your claim now, even if you don't have paperwork. We've not been able to submit a lot yet, but will provide more when get get it later in March. Wish I'd applied years ago! Now had to do the same for hubby as he is also ASD!

As others have said apply now. We got DLA for ds1 and ds2 before both diagnosis and statement. We sent in all the behaviour reports from school and letters from CAMHS suggesting likelihood of an ASD as evidence and I don't think they can have sent off for any more information as we heard back very quickly. The more specific you can be the better. E.g. If she wakes up in the night say how many times and for how long each time or how many times you had to collect her early from school because they couldn't cope.

It is difficult filling in the form as behaviour is often erratic but consider the problems at their worst e.g. ds1 does not often have a public meltdown but he still needs constant supervision when out because the consequences are dire when he does and we often can not predict when the volcano will erupt.

Thanks all.

I hope I do have enough evidence, afterall, she is in a PRU, statemented and only okay because we don't change things unless needed. Took her to the dentist and she refused to do anything and backed herself in a corner on the floor. She managed it six months ago, before going back to school and everything went wrong there.

Will call up today and get the forms and hope for the best.
