Hello
We're moving back to the UK (London) and I'm desperately looking for the right boarding school for our bright, naive, sometimes charming and persuasive but mostly challenging and argumentative (no violence/swearing) Aspergers/ADHD/possibly PDA 10 year old son, who also struggles with literacy and the concept of a pecking order..
He's currently in an Aspergers unit attached to a state school in the US but it's not going well at all - we're all exhausted, family life is miserable and he's having a really negative effect on his little sister :(
We've just returned from an unsuccessful trial at More House in Frensham - he wasn't offered a place as he was too argumentative (wouldn't take off his coat and gloves, wouldn't do what he was asked and was overly confident apparently). He was oblivious to all this and thought that the trial went really well and he thought the school was great.
Anyway, I was hoping that someone might be able to recommend a weekly boarding/ full boarding school that understands Aspergers, offers literacy support and can handle argumentative boys who are convinced that they know everything about everything... We've been told that a school for behavioural problems wouldn't be the right place for him (More House also told us this).
I'm now looking into Centre Academy in Norfolk and Northease Manor (although I've been following what's been said about Northease). I've also looked into places like Frewen and Bruern Abbey but I think they would find him too challenging. We'll be self funding as he has a statement here in the US but nothing in the UK other than a pile of CAMHS and Psych reports and I know what the fight ahead will be like.
Any thoughts/opinions would be hugely appreciated - we move back in April and I really don't know what we're going to do.
