Has anyone tried one? Are they any good?

Yes, and yes, but it depends what your childs needs are. In our view tomcat are much better for ds. Have quest come and give you an assessment?

hazeyjane · 18/02/2015 08:05

Thankyou!
We had an assessment for a Tomcat and have waited nearly a year to hear back from Cerebra about a grant. We have a chance to buy a second hand quest, for a tenth of the price, so thought if it suited him then we could have something for when the weather gets a bit warmer!

Ds is 4.7, has low muscle tone, walks but tires very easily and needs a buggy, is getting a Lycra suit next month to help with his posture. Loves the trikes at school, but can't pedal them - although makes a damn good effort - he is VERY determined!!

We have a quest88. It suited dd better than the tomcat. We luckily were able to trail both at the same time.
Did you try the caudwell fund for the trike? They are gvery quick at getting abck to you (3 months in total for us).

Toots38 · 18/02/2015 14:55

Sorry about the typing in my post!
Dd loves her trike, she cannot walk, yet, so it's her taste of freedom.

whereonthestair · 18/02/2015 18:41

Hi have you tried lions clubs. They were great for us with funding, very quick.

whereonthestair · 18/02/2015 18:43

Also I don't suppose you live in Peterborough/ Huntingdon area as there is a great trust there ( we didn't qualify ). For us the quest was more clunky, and less easy to steer, brake etc. ds can't walk either but finds the tomcat much easier for his legs/core. But the difficulty is that all children are different and the new trike we have fitted for him is so much easier than the second hand one. I am getting fit running with him!

whereonthestair · 18/02/2015 18:44

If your ds can't pedal also think about which you will be able to push or steer for him, as that is a factor.

hazeyjane · 18/02/2015 19:35

Hello

Thanks Toots and Where

We tried out the Quest today, it was pretty good, although ds was quite small on it. It had a steering handle which can be used on the front or back.

Funnily enough when we got back, there was a letter from Cerebra saying there would be a 9 month wait on whether we would get a grant!!

We also sent of requests to Caudwell and The Bhoparan Trust.

Try the Beckham's charity
My friend's dc got a trike from there. Mrs Beckham (senior) rang up to see if it was OK!!

I gather they were quite quick.

The Variety Club very generously funded my sons's Quest 88. I am not sure if they still do this as it was a few years ago. He had so much fun, I could not believe that he could actually be on a trike given the extreme postural difficulties he had.

Immaculate condition

hazeyjane · 21/02/2015 20:07

Thankyou everyone.

Was outbid on the trike at the last minute, and promptly burst into tears! It has been a long week, of heart worries and DLA forms arriving, (that is my excuse) it is so galling that everything is such a slog, and so bloody expensive. Ds would love a trike so much.

Anyway I have dusted myself down, and will renew my fundraising efforts tenfold next week, along with getting Quest to do an assessment.

Thankyou for all your advice.Smile

I'm in Staffordshire, I had it advertised for £100, as it has been in the shed for a couple of months and needs a bit of tlc. It has the front/back parent handle, chest and pelvic straps and leg calipers.

beldaran · 23/02/2015 16:00

Should say it's the carousel version.

Rjae · 24/02/2015 10:14

Bugger! Re outbidding. I saw ours on eBay. Quest 88 never used as the kiddie needed hip surgery, offered at £250. I contacted the lady, she said OK and I was so overjoyed to get it I gave her £300 on the spot before hurrying off in tears! It was one of our best ever busy and used every fine day.

Pink can very easily be re sprayed Grin and dressed up with fancy tape!

Rjae · 24/02/2015 10:16

Just in time for spring. Now is the perfect time!

Also get on the list for RDA it's so good for low tone children.

If anyone in Scotland is looking for a special needs trike I have a Tomcat fizz trike in lilac. Its been used 4 times. Has full parental control and comes with the trailer to attatch it to back of your bike. It has back support (as seen on the red trike on the link)

hazeyjane · 26/02/2015 09:16
