Walking around with just one shoe on - Anyone have any idea why?

This is more out of curiosity than anything as it's not causing us any problems (apart from when it comes to finding the missing shoe the next morning )

When ds1 gets home he always takes the sock and shoe from one foot off and will happily potter around the house like that for a couple of hours before removing the other shoe. It's not always the same foot each time and he does it no matter what shoes or trainers he's been wearing.

I'm not even sure whether it's related to his ASD but just wondered if anyone else had any ideas/experience.

I don't know, but when my ds gets home from school, he likes to take off his socks and stuff them down the back of the sofa.
I think he feels properly at home when he does it, maybe it's the same for you ds?

Coppertop, my ds2 wont wear socks or shoes in the house. He doesnt like slippers either. He just takes his socks off no matter how many times i put them back on, i just think they must feel more comfortable in bare feet or bare foot in your wee boys case! My older son doesnt do it and he also has sn, im not really sure why ds2 does it, in fact ive never mentioned it to anyone apart from family but he goes to a special school now so im pretty sure he does it there too although it hasnt been mentioned by the teacher.

LOL at the socks down the back of the sofa. I think we have an entire army of missing socks hiding in various strategic locations around the house.

2mum - that sounds like ds2. If he thinks he's staying anywhere for more than a few minutes, off come the socks and shoes. I suppose I shouldn't complain really. Until about a year ago he used to take off everything except his nappy.

Ooh Coppertop

SNAP to Sam

One shoe / sock (sock indoors as Dh and carperts- well you know- paranoid android that he is, no shoes indoors)

Right sock on in this house

oh god the sock thing! the sock thing!
Ds (9) would not wear socks without shoes for years. He hates the fact that they might rub together. He won't wear them tight on his feet either (he has a bit flapping at the end) If we went to other peoples houses..and therefore had to take his shoes off, he would remove one shoe and one sock first and then the other shoe...and wander around in one sock. We have now progressed! he makes a special effort and will now wear 2 socks at other peoples houses as long as they don't touch and are flapping. Once home, he just whips them both off.

I spent all day today asking him to pull his socks up (literally of course LOL) now I see!!!!

Speaking of literally, DS was trying to retrieve something from a tight space today, I got frustrated and told him to use his head- ie get a coathanger or something- and he promptly wedged his head right in the gap trying to use his head to remove the item.

ROFL Peachy!

It's nice to hear that there are so many others out there with socks & shoes 'habits'.

We have one of those missing sock mountains. I give up and throw the whole mountain away every so often but it always regrows... sigh
