Specialist Resource Bases anyone?

Our city has about 6 primary schools with these. My son is yr 2 and has severe ADHD and other learning needs and his current (lovely) teacher is suggesting I look at few of these for him. At the moment he is about 2 years behind academically, is making progress very slowly and has full time 1 to 1 support.

I know I'm going to have to look at this option. Does anyone have any experience? Do they differ in the type of children they support? I really don't want him to have to go to school on the other side of town unless absolutely necessary.

Hi, trying to get dd into one but as only 2in whole county v difficult. Whereabouts are you? Have visited 2 and they seemed half way be mainstream and es.

In a good example I have seen, the unit is designated ASD - the small group social skills teaching, 1 to1 SALT and catch up classes are in the unit, and a student who can go to mainstream eg for music or maths does so.

Others operate with the children expected to spend the bulk of their time in the mainstream classes, and the unit is used for calming down meltdowns, and some teaching at a slower pace.

The only way to sort it out is to look at them and ask lots of questions both before, during and after the visit.
