explaining periods to children with asd / learning difficulties

Dd (10) has asd. We've talked about and she seems to understand the basics of how babies are made, but I know I need to talk to her about periods. Last thing I want is for it to happen and her not know what is going on.

But she has a learning difficulty and none of the books I've seen are aimed at her level. All the books I've seen are very wordy. Even if I read them to her, it would be over her head.

I really don't know how to start the conversation and had hoped there was a book we could read together. Anyone know of any simple, picture books that explain periods for young girls with learning difficulties and who are very literal?
