i can't really remember the ones I had. most were useless and had no idea about a child with cp.
watching eastenders for the first time in a while I was shocked by the HV on there and it made me wonder if some were that bad.
If you didn't see it she refered to people with ds ans being sweet little things..........wtf

Not my HV but I had many people say 'they are very loving', 'you're very brave' etc.

'They' aren't all loving. 'They' are individulas like anyone else and each have their own unique, individual personality.

What's brave about lovign your own child? wtf?????

Yes those people exist, this one in the guise of an hv. But that's fine, as long as they p[ut right, re-educated that's what matters. Mainly people with these attitudes maen no harm, in fact they are trying to say the right thing. They just need to be poiltley told how it really is and put at their ease do they don't try to hard to say the right thing which in fact is so the wrong thing!

oh didn't you know
iam brave i have been told
also did you know people with cp are happy all the time
not from a hv thank god

My HV was the worst part of a pretty traumatic 18 months. She was just vile. She turned up minutes after an SpR had given away that DD had cri du chat syndrome. My husband and I were completely floored and devestated. HV just shrugs her shoulders and says how she knew something was wrong the minute she clapped eyes on DD. When I asked why she said really matter of fact that she looks nothing like either of us and then began to point out all that was 'wrong' with her face.. look how her nose goes down into her lip.. her nose and mouth are far to big for a baby.. look how massive her forehead is. These were her words. We were already shaking and crying before she came. Ugghh

my Hv for both of mine were useless but thankfully they had no idea of Ds's difficulties at that stage.

It is quite worrying that there seem to be so many ignorant health proffesionals.

when will they leanr that as well as reading all the medical journals about what these problems are, they need to take som diplomacy and social skills courses

Mine was (and still is ) brilliant. But then she does have a child with DS.

My HV isnt particularly great. She also told me how you always knew something wasnt right by the look of my son............????!?! Not what you wanted to hear when you just receive a dx....!!I dont see an awful lot of her now which suits m just fine.

mine was awfull kept telling me i was over reacting and there was nothing wrong i was just neurotic (all though im a fully trained nursery nurse and have all the qualifications) at the time i first new there was something wrong ds was 10 months and i was 21 so it was as if they thought young mom = has no idea on children, it wasnt untill ds was 2 and i had to take my mom with me that they finally listened to me, how embarrasing i had to take my mom with me as if i was 12

thats the one thing im dreading about when this baby comes, it will be the same health visitor i think they know me by now and know i wont take no shit anymore
