Hope you don't mind.

DS (8, attachment difficulties, ASD traits) has managed magnificently without his TA for three days due to an emergency. Even coped with a school trip on Friday morning.

His teacher came out to tell me just how well he had done, in time to witness DS curled up on the playground Tarmac en route to a major, MAJOR meltdown.

He still did really, really well. Is it possible to earn the right to a major meltdown, because if it is, he did! Smile

He held on until he didn't have to any longer, which is an astounding thing for him to have managed.
May your half term be uneventful. Smile

Thank you - I needed to hear that!

I love the idea of earning the right to a meltdown and wonder if it could also apply to adults?

Uneventful half terms to all!

That's a great idea, parents are allowed meltdowns, how much do u have to put up with though before you can have one?

Jennifersrabbit · 25/10/2014 15:26

We could devise a sliding scale ... Smile

My ils are arriving on Monday, I'd I behave really well till then, can I earned the right to one while they are here? (They don't believe ds1 has autism and constantly use the words 'they all do that!')

AnguaVonUberwald · 25/10/2014 22:29

IF I behave really well till then, bloody autocorrect!

He did great, Jennifers. It just needs to be small step after small step for our DCs (mine is one; I've had the school-tarmac-meltdown-scenario Blush - and worse too). By Friday afternoon, he'd held it together long enough.

I really hope his teacher was fully supportive and understanding to both of you. Forget about expectations and public perceptions. You're doing a great job.

BlackeyedSusan · 25/10/2014 23:26

glad she came out to see the effects of seeming to manage well. because they might use the appearing to cope with no ta as an excuse to reduce thier costs

hope you have a calm half term.

So far so good - much Minecraft today :)

His teacher is great and doing an excellent job with him, but yes I sneakily thought no harm done for him to witness the after effects.

angua i will happily award you a meltdown at your in laws if it helps.
