Was it unreasonable to ask for References...

So I found an ABA friendly SALT.. Local, works with a VB consultant, reasonably priced etc

I asked them for a reference and said I am happy for my number to be passed on to anyone who is in a similar situation or give me their number or a written reference. The SALT went very quiet, then said never been asked before and will see what can be done. They were happy to speak to our ABA team (which again I proposed).

Today, I chase them, and was told this isnt what they normally do and I should look for another provider.

I have always checked work references. Was it an unreasonable request? Just so I know not to do this again

Thanks
SA

No of course it wasn't unreasonable. If you are paying for them to work with your child then it's perfectly reasonable to ask for references otherwise how would you know if they were any good? Just because they have all the qualifications doesn't mean they do a good job. I wouldn't pay for any private therapy without a recommendation or reference.

I wouldn't employ that SALT. The relationship has broken down as well as the trust before you even got going.

I wound appreciate a PM with the name if you are willing. People often ask me about people.

I have your PM btw OP but our SALT is nhs. I can PM the name but was waiting for computer to link to someone else I know is good.

I think it is best that you find someone else. It is ridiculous to be offended by someone asking for references. It isn't a personal criticism ffs. If they're that sensitive, then find someone who is more professional.

No I won't be using them. Have gotten in touch with our earlier private salt. She was the first professional aside from our otherwise useless gp to agree with me that something is off.

This old salt is happy to work with aba and knows our child. Might as well use her. She hasn't worked with aba teams recently however
