Hugging strangers

Hey just wondering if anyone has any tips on getting my nearly 6 year old to stop talking to/trying to hold hands with and hugging strangers??
I have tried to talk to her about it but her understanding isn't great!
She usually says but I love them very much so I want to cuddle them

DS is an inappropriate hugger. I ended up writing him a list of people who it was ok to hug. Anybody who isn't on the list is not allowed a hug. I am encouraging him to ask people whether he can hug them as well before he dives in. So far it seems to be working at home, i'm not sure about school but he's in a small special school anyway so i'm sure they are keeping him in check!

DS2 used to do this. Eventually (when he was 8 or 9) we had to make a 'hug list' of people he was allowed to hug. If they weren't on the list, then he couldn't hug them. The list can be in whatever format your DD can most easily understand, e.g. names or photos on a poster or in a mini flip-book.

I have tried saying we can only hug people If we know them and they say yes but this hasn't worked so far!
She will also hold their hands and refuse yo let go, or invite them to our house/want to go to theirs.

Maybe you need to be more specific.

I had to show ds photo's of the people he was allowed to hug and even then he didn't stop hugging others straight away. We had to keep reinforcing for quite a while. He will still do it randomly once in a while just to keep me on my toes!

You might have to be a bit more specific than that. Some children think as soon as they know someone's name then they know them. That's why DS has a list of names. Or maybe tell her that she has to check with you before hugging someone.
I don't think it's unusual of kids that age to invite each other for playdates without bothering to ask Mum first so don't worry too much about that.
It might be worth considering banning the hand holding all together as i think they tend to stop doing that round about this age.

It's not children she invites over, it's shop workers, random people in the street with their dog ect. Yes your right I think I will have to be more specific, and a good idea about getting her to check with me first!

Oh gosh you could have all and sundry in your house! It's cute when they are little but it has to be nipped in the bud because it looks more and more inappropriate as they get older. DS used to stroke people a lot, that was all very nice until curiosity got the better of him and he started touching his LSA's boob which then resulted in school doing a social services referral! Luckily they realised it was innocent.

Haha fair game she unfortunately tickles men at the wrong level.. So the men that know her cover their bits when she passes :-/
