Absolutely furious

Our aussie version of pop idol was on tonight and a judge referred to a contestant as the 'full mong'!!!! I was absolutely gobsmacked. To make it worse - another judge asked him to define what the 'full mong' was - she seemed very uncomfortable with their use of the term. To which the other male judge just points at the first judge and says that is a 'full mong'!!!!!

I texted the show which you can do to leave feedback.

I have written to the TV channel expressing my disgust and have asked that it be passed on to the producers of the show.

I have also emailed the two biggest sponsors - Mazda and a telecom company!!

Any other thoughts on who I could express my disgust to???

I was surprised to even get a reply from Mazda tbh. Have not heard from the other big company though!!

things like that make me feel like crying really. Well done though E on chasing it and getting such a empathetic response. Let's hope some good comes out of this.

aitch71 · 03/10/2006 14:17

well done eidsvold, you should be proud of yourself for not just letting this slide.

Bouj · 04/10/2006 07:25

Eidsvold - saw your letter to the editor. Good for you. Tbh, I wasn't suprised by what he said - he is a vile man. I stopped watching Idol for that reason, find him to be such a nasty piece of work. Good on you for doing something though.

Bouj · 04/10/2006 07:25

Oh, and I hope things are ok today in the Eidsvold house!

onlyjoking9329 · 04/10/2006 10:00

good on you for pulling them up on it, i find it sickening that people still use words like that and don't understand that they shouldn't.

eidsvold · 04/10/2006 10:07

Wow, Eidsvold - well done you!

I am very impressed with the response from Mazda - to actually say they would re-consider the relationship with the show! THAT will ensure that this man is well and truly dealt with - probably sacked! (have you told the TV Company that that is what Mazda said? i would forward the Mazda response to them - so that they can see what Mazda is saying) Excellent! I am pleased to see that the paper werre interested, too.

eidsvold · 05/10/2006 03:52

Well yesterday - he was in the paper sayign her thought the word was from 'mongoose' according to his urban english dictionary ( never heard of it and am an english teacher to boot!)

He was unrepentant and went on to accuse the Down syndrome associations of attacking him for free publicity for Awareness week how low can one go!!!!!

OP posts:
eidsvold · 05/10/2006 03:52

sorry apparently mongoose is another work for d*head.

He sounds like a revolting character who, sadly, will never have insight. Luckily it seems as if Mazda have realised what a liability he is... let's hope everyone else concerned does too.

Good on you for taking this up.

Alibaldi · 05/10/2006 05:08

eidsvold I've just read this and am absolutely horrified . Good for you for getting on to them so swiftly. It's horrifying that these so-called celebs think that they can get away with such outrageous behaviour. Hope your DH has had a comfortable journey back. Fingers crossed that this man learns his lesson and so do the Producers of Idol. Oh and before I forget your DD looks beautiful and I'm glad she had a wonderful birthday.
