Fontanelle spot question

Are you guys familiar with soft spots ? Grin

Basically I think DS still has his one, I took him to the doctor to see if it was still there, but he said no.

But I'm not so sure because it's very hard to tell when DS his hair long, but the gap and the bump is obvious when his hair is cut really short.?

Just wondering if anybody knew how to tell when your child's Fontanelle spot is still open.

The front fontanelle closes at 12 months and the back fontanelle at 18 months.
You can tell because you will feel a gap where there is no bone and you can feel the bone around the gap.
If GP says it is closed then i would go along with it. GP's aren't always on the ball with kids but, IME (as a children's nurse), most GP's can recognise a fontanelle.

Thanks Fairgame, I was a bit concerned, because you can feel a gap where originally the Fontanelle was, it's hard, but it looks and feels that there's a groove on DS head.

If it's hard then it's definitely closed. An open fontanelle is squishy and should never be pressed. Skulls are generally lumpy and bumpy and not smooth.
