Hi

I recieved an assesment report for DS (10 in a few days), it seems very likely Dysprxia will be diagnosed. However they are requsting his GP make a referral for a neurological assesment first to ensure there are no other issues causing his problems and if not then DCD will be the final diagnosis based on this report from the OT as he is showing significant difficulties, his overall motor skills fall in the 2nd percentile

it is usual for a neurological assesment to be done in these cases?

Thanks

Yes when my DS was 8 he has a nurological assesment done by a peadeatrician (spellings crud at this time of night). It consisted of activities such as putting the finger on the end of his nose, standing on one leg, stuff like that.

He's now 13 and really grew into himself as he grew up, found his core, got great strength and stamina from playing football and his dyspraxia just sort of lessened. Doc said that tall long limbed boys like my DS have shorter muscles to control said long limbs as they grow slower than bone, which sort of made senseand now he's older this have proved to be very true.
