Hiya all

My son is 22 months and since about 18 months I have felt something was wrong. He is in his own world , does not interact, cuddle, or kiss , does not point or gesture, does not respond to his name and I really don't think he understand what I say. I am going out of my mind reading and trying to get him support but without a diagnosis it's really hard.

I am thinking about getting him privately assessed as the nhs is saying 10-12 months waiting to be seen!

In the mean time I was thinking about starting some private speech and language therapy at home. I am in east london and wanted to ask if anyone would recommend any one they have used or think this is something that will benefit my son.

Also how much they charge,

He is not talking just really make sounds very rarely says dada.

Any advice will be much appreciated

Thank you

Sorry to hijack

But can you get one-one in special school? I heard that you can't.

Adrianna - I am sure the law wouldn't state it.. But I don't know anyone who gets it because class sizes are small. If s child needs 1-1 for 30 hours a week, they probably do get it in practice

You can get 1:1 in ss but it's not common as it's normally needed due to small class sizes. When I was school nursing I knew of 3 children who had 1:1 in ss. Two had a trachy's one of which required ventilation in school. The other child was in a pru and had extremely severe behavioural problems in and out of school. He ended up getting permanently excluded from the pru and was put in a 52 week residential therapeutic placement.
One of the support workers for one of the trachy kids was paid for by the parents and not the LA.
In practice if a child in ss needs more help then they kind of get it without it being statemented for as there are less children per staff than in a ms school.

Hi all

I have been in contact with a few speech and language therapists who have experience in aba and many years experience with autistic children .

Just wanted to ask those who had used a salt before aba therapy what methods did they use? One salt mentioned PECS. Not sure about this

Any advice will help x thanks

Hi @Rumaysa1, read this thread and it’s very informative. How has your son progressed along the last few years, was ABA effective? At what age did you get your ds started with both SALT and ABA?
