Medikinet XL

My DS15 has Dyspraxia and last week was finally also diagnosed with ADD. He doesn't have the Hyper bit (quite the opposite). We agreed to start him on Medikinet XL which he has one 10mg tablet after his breakfast in the morning. He started that last Saturday.
On the Saturday he said he had a bit of a headache and felt weird but from Sunday onwards the only symptom he seems to get is aching in his knees.
The Dr had said if we didn't notice any changes to double to dosage in the mornings after a week.
I don't know much about what changes I should be looking for and as he is a generally moody 15 year old boy, it's not easy to get an answer out of him.
He does seem a bit calmer but seeing as he didn't have the hyperactive element of ADHD what should I be looking out for?
Any experience of Medikinet XL anyone?
Should add he is sleeping ok at night currently.

Sorry - I have only just seen your OP, so this may be too late. My DS has the same set of difficulties and also started Medikinet XL at the same age as your DS.

On the positive side, I would be looking for an improvement in concentration levels or self-organisation. A key test for my son would be doing a set of Maths problems - much much quicker and with better concentration if the Medikinet was effective. If it seems to be having absolutely no positive effect, then I would say there is no point in him taking it. By the way, my son cannot feel when the Medikinet is kicking in, but it is quite noticeable to others. But he stepped up to a higher dose than your son has started on.

On the negative side, I believe the main thing you are looking out for is any negative character change or significant mood swings over and above normal teenage moodiness! Other side effects might be difficulty in sleeping and loss of appetite. If you look at the leaflet with the drug, there will be a long list of possible side effects. For me, personally, any adverse mood change would have been an indicator that he should stop. Very significant loss of appetite might be an issue if he is already quite thin and/or has a lot of growing still to do. Although my son would not eat much while the Medikinet was in his system, he would have a large breakfast beforehand and be hungry when it wore off, so got enough food intake over a day.

Do ask me if you have any follow-up questions.
