sorry in advance for money grabbing post.

bit of background: 5 DC's aged 8, 6, 3, 16 months and 3 months, all boys, all with hypermobility. DS2 has severe hypermobility and uses a wheelchair, also has SPD. DS4 has cleft lip and palate, hearing and vision problems, hydrocephalus and development delay.

We claimed from the family fund once before about 5 years ago for DS2 and got a tumble dryer and £750 towards days out and bus fares to appointments.

I'm claiming again for a set of fibre optic lights for DS4 which will cost about £500. I know they give you less for a 2nd claim but not sure how much. The tumble dryer needs fixing and the warranty has run out so I was wondering if there would be enough money for repairing it and maybe insurance for it. DH thinks we should ask for a new tumble dryer and days out again (so not the fibre optic lights at all). I think while days out were great when we just had the older 2, going with 5 of them, complete with wheelchair, SN buggy, baby in sling and escaping 3 year old would be such a nightmare that it would be me needing to lie down in a sensory room, not DS4 by the time we'd finished Grin. I think we should ask for fibre optic lights and maybe something else if there is money left over. Not sure what to do now. Going to get a quote to see how much the tumble dryer will cost to fix. Does anyone know how much they will spend on a second claim?

You can also get a grant from cerebra as well to buy sensory equipment.

Also try contacting your local children's disability team (look on your council website) as they should have details of local charities that give grants.

Thankyou. I had no idea there were so many places that do grants for disabled children.

ellie - Family Fund has just sent out an email asking to be recommended to other families in need. You should be able to apply online as you have already been assessed. Go for it.
