Don't know if anyone saw this already, but just in case anyone is interested there's an article about a brain/speech therapist who's written a book about her experiences with her son. She seems to have done amazing things.

Thanks tamum. Have to say the article was a bit weird thogh. They suggested that her approach was a bit wild and crazy when in fact it seemed to be a sensible way to work with a non-verbal child. Pretty much everything she does we do with ds1 - as do the professionals who know what they are doing.

Mind you maybe some of the "ooh look a the bubbles" type speech and language therapists should read the book

Jimjams, you read the book and tell me what it says! That's what my husband does about reports etc I'd like to know what she really says rather than the journalist's interpretation. I find miracle recovery stories unnerving, not because it can't happen, but because for most kids it won't, whatever their parnets do. it also gives all the usually uninterested relatives an excuse to pile the pressure on! My mil used to keep on about the diet because of things she read in the papers or heard on the radio and also about Options. She used to "wish" we'd take our son to the USA when we were actually doing to most proven and practices method from the USA! SOrry, light rant!
THanks for posting it though Tamum, now I'm armed!

Hi Jimjams, Nice to see you back!

Davros, I did think after I'd posted it that it could well be used as guilt-trip material. Sorry. It did seem a bit odd- as you say jimjams, it didn't sound as though she was doing anything all that different from stuff I've read on here that lots of you do, apart from the rather accusatory stuff about using her other children as therapists. It did sound remarkably successful; it's like all these n=1 experiments really, I guess, but still quite hopeful. The book's only £7, which seems quite reasonable.

I know what you mean about the miracle recoveries. I think if you are aiming for "cure" from non-verbal then you have a problem really and reading about all these things doesn't really help. AIT is the same and DMG. Mind you the DMG one doesn't worry me as its cheap easy and safe to try.

God the thought of taking ds1 to the USA. NO thanks. Unless we could motorcaravan our way there (the thought of planes and ds1 brings me out in a cold sweat).

suddenly ckick in it seems.
