Ofsted and behaviour report

I am sorry for crashing here with this post when I have not had time to post regularly on this board for quite some time. Work, commitments with DS1 who is in a LA funded HE package and campaigning with the ERA take up most of my time.

But I hope some of you will remember me and will know I would only post to raise something of importance.

Some of you may have seen Ofsted's report 'Below the radar: low-level disruption in the country’s classrooms' published yesterday. You can read it here.

As the parent of a child who has been 'guilty' of most of the 'low level disruptive' behaviour described because of his ASC and inability to cope with the school environment, I was very worried about the tone of the report.

I have prepared a letter to Sir Michael Wilshaw which you can read here

I just wanted to bring it to your attention as I know many parents struggle with schools' failure to accomodate children's differences in case you wanted to sign it.

After my child with ASD who was excluded because of his behaviour I took the alleged 'centre of excellence for SEN' school to a tribunal. They were found to have committed multiple acts of disability discrimination. They basically just didn't want him there and there were a high number of illegal exclusions. They also did other unlawful acts, of which I had full evidence, so I informed Ofsted of the facts and they apparently investigated this.

Following an inspection they then rated the school 'outstanding' in all areas despite there being clear evidence to the contrary. Sir Michael Wilshaw had stated that Ofsted takes matters such as this very seriously which was why I contacted them as I was concerned about other children there.

Well done for raising the issue but if a school that discriminates by failing to make reasonable adjustments and treats disabled children and their families badly is considered to be outstanding by Ofsted what hope is there?

I agree completely having been there myself with a similarly 'outstanding' school which has been left untouched by inspectors for 7 years.
