I've noticed when doing homework with my daughter for maths she knows her maths but when it comes to making sense of a question she cannot work out the answer or the process you have to go through in a problem solving question eg Sarah's wants to find the middle number....so you have to sequence the numbers in order find the middle one and put it in the box....my daughter needs to be told how to break it down and practically show her the answer, the teacher said as it's early in yr2 that's ok and that it can be taught and they often get readers to help some students but my daughter can read!
In recent hospital assessments it's been noted that my daughters non verb reasoning is difficult and all her sensory system is affected....(we are heading for asd diagnoses) the drs said my daughter would struggle to copy information from a board to paper, and she can't read non verbal cues, she has subtle difficulties that school doesn't seem to understand
How do I demand a time limit eg. when she has grasped reading questions and understanding....shouldn't she be nearly ready to do this by now? What help should she have? What can I do? I think it's totally unreasonable to expect my daughter to understand these non specific questions considering the difficulties in this area!
My LO is on what was known as SA+
