Hi

Ive already started a thread on this topic, but looking for more advice as DS has been accepted to be accessed for a statement...( Well IEP now).

DS has surprisingly been referred by the SEN to start a placement at my local language unit, even though they know he has ASD.

Anyway, I'm not sure if DS should stay at his mainstream school or attend the unit, as I love both of them.

So I was wondering if the LA would allow a trial period to see how DS could still attend his mainstream school, but attend the language unit for two days a week.

I spoke to the SEN team about this, she said it's not a usual thing, but if it's on the statement that he can attend two provisions. But I need to wait until his statement is completed.

I know a minority of parents that have done this, for different reasons. I even the daughter is a very talented dancer.

Has anybody done a split placement before and how did they go about it?

My son has a split placement. Three days at one school and two at his mainstream. Only started this in September but so far it is going really well. It was driven by the special school who have a lot of split placement children, it was my son that wanted it and it's working well, he's so happy.
