Hi

I just wanted to ask if anyone has manged to get a statement for their child before nursery or school.

Pic suspect my son 20 months has autism I hope I'm wrong but I'm on a waiting list for the assessment which could take 10 months. In the mean time I wanted to start some sort of therapy to assist him may be aba as I have read very good things about this but to get assistance with funding via a charity he needs a statement .

Can he get one at such a young age and can it be changed later if his needs change and how long can the process be?

Sorry for all the questions , I am overwhelmed and sooo stressed don't know what to do right now for my poor baby xx

You don't need a diagnosis to get a statement but they are very hard to get under two , is your child under a hospital or child development centre they may be able to help good luck

Statements are based on need and not diagnosis. You will have to apply for the new EHC plan as statements are being phased out. I think only the most complex children get statements at such a young age.
And yes a statement can be changed as it has to be reviewed on a yearly basis. The length of time to get a statement used to be 24 weeks but im not sure how long it is with the new EHC framework.
IPSEA has a useful website and you can call them for advice.
