EP recommendations

Hi

I'm new to this forum but would love some advice. I have a 6 year old daughter who has just started year 2 in mainstream school. She has a diagnosis of Asd, dyspraxia, anxiety and probable dyslexia (she is displaying many signs and my two older children are very dyslexic).
School applied for statutory assessment which was initially refused, the La then changed their minds after some pressure from us and have now agreed to assess.

I am under no illusions that if a proposed statement is given it may not offer what Dd needs in terms of support. The need for a statement is supported by OT, paediatrician, drama therapist (cahms) and a tertiary hospital (where we had a more detailed assessment as a second opinion). We want to have an independent educational psychologist assess dd however we have contacted around five EPs so far who are all booked until January 2016.

We need to see an EP sooner than this as this is too late for dd and I ask if anyone had any recommendations of EPs?

Thanks

bumble - whereabouts in the country are you????

we were refused appealed won she had her assessment and then they issued a NIL so we are going to tribunal again and have an EP booked for that - I had the same headache with EPs which really shocked me as they were booked up until march and I made contact in august - I do have one but not sure how close to you she would be

Depends where you are. Most will travel but it will cost you more.
I used Charles Ward and he was good. He got my son's needs and difficulties spot on. He's very experienced with ASD as well. He's based up near Newcastle but he came down to South Yorkshire for us. He did the assessment and report within 2 weeks of us contacting him as we were close to final evidence deadline.

We are based in surrey. I meant January 2015 (not 2016) regarding space for assessments from the EPs we have spoken to.
I want to be prepared and have our own evidence as I'm sure they will continue to play dirty tricks to avoid a statement.

Any other suggestions around surrey would be great please.

We are using David Urani who lists ASD as a specialism and has a good reputation (though we haven't seen him yet). When our Request to Assess was turned down, we spoke to some lawyers who recommended him (we are appealing). I think he is based in the South somewhere - he is coming to London in November to assess my DD.

We have an EP sorted for now but will wait for the outcome of the statutory assessment before having our own EP assessment done. The waiting lists are so long at the moment I just wanted to be sure we had someone lined up.
Thanks for all your suggestions.

We saw one at dyslexia action. They're costs are a little more reasonable too. As well as looking for dyslexia the EP asked me if she wanted me to assess for other things. We already had a dx of ASD (2nd opinion etc too!) so I said no. Also we are just at the end of the statement process and the EP said they will use the evidence supplied by private EP. School on the other hand always told me they would dismiss it!

John Hutchings - considered the best of the best - Associate of Ruth Birnbaum
