Feeding Chair

DT2 needs a support chair for meal times. SALT said this would do the world of good as his tone is very poor too. If he was supported it may reduce his choking also.

OT have advised us that Social work will not fund for it cause he is 2.5(3 in jan) and it's our job to get the chair.

I have been onto OT as I need to know what the chairs are like- they say go to ikea. Whilst I dont mind going to bloody ikea how do I know what he really need since I have never had to do this before - I was a tad angry.

The twins had High chair/low chair thingys when babies the ones that turned into table and chairs which I have not long given away

Can anyone show me pictures of what I will need please? I know he needs to be supported at the hips too

TIA

asked on another site answer i got
never used one myself but know loads of people who have

That's exactly what its called - a trip trap chair. Its wooden, a bit like an enlarged high chair, with flat wooden planks in front and behind the seat

tripp trapp

Don't understand why the OT won't provide you with one jambuttie if that's what is needed. They would in our area I think. Anyone else?

think like everything else in sn life you will have to argue your case and fight for it

What you want is a Breezi.

A Breezi is a tripp-trapp rip-off with longer foot rails at the bottom. This stops the larger/less compliant child from putting their feet against the table and kicking the whole thing over backwards which is a problem with tripp trapps and SN kids.

Otherwise it is exactly the same - I know this because we have one of each and otherwise you can hardly tell them apart. The breezi has a wide range of optional SN attachments/supports for kids that have sitting problems - physical ones not behavioural, mostly - and has the other advantage that you can get a tray which you can't with the tripp trapp.

We got ours from OT. When DD was 18 months. We got it on permanent loan - the way it works with our OT, everything they provide is on loan and because it doesn't come out of capital expenditure they get away with it. But you keep it approximately for ever then it goes back for refurb which costs them about as much as buying a new one. It's an accounting fiddle. We can't actually get any OT on the other hand....

Have a look at www.dcsjoncare.com who are our OT's suppliers.

If you know you don't need to worry about the tipping risk, you can get a tripp trapp second hand on ebay for about £50. Or you could try a pleading entry on freeserve.

Hiya

thanks for all the input a least I know now what I am dealing with/ need.

It's not that OT won't provide him with the chair, social work will not fund them for it. Social work say that as he is 2.5 we need to buy it
