DS2 is having (I think) panic attacks

Ds2 (9) has autism. He attends MS school, statemented to have 30 hours help. He is moving schools, starting middle school in September.

For months now he has been having a few sleepless nights and vocalising how worried he is about starting, mainly because he is scared of the work and because they give detentions.

Ds2 has no behavioural issues and complies to rules so detention shouldn't be an issue, but the workload might be, hopefully his 1:1 will work with him and curriculum will be adjusted.

A couple of times this holiday he has been panicked, saying his stomach is hurting and he can't breathe properly. I myself have panic attacks and what he has described and the flushed panicked look have lead me to believe he is having an attack. Once I've spoken to him, distracted him and he has calmed down he crashes out for an hour or so.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? Do I speak to GP or do you think an appointment with his Paediatrician would be a better idea? I have open access to his very lovely, very understanding paed so could get an emergency appointment but don't want to bother him if GP can help.

In the meantime, any helpful advice is also greatly appreciated.

Hi Rainicorn,
Good job on distracting him when he's feeling anxious.
Did his previous school do a social story for his transition?

His previous school have done nothing much to help with the transition, despite mine and Dhs best efforts, various meetings and complaints. They have basically been shit to out it bluntly.

He has had a day and a half transition visits.

We live near to,school and his older brother is already there so he is familiar in it that way.
