SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Dd has started at a ballet/drama/dance type place and it is a complete breath of fresh air.....

My faith in human kind is restored.

In our contact a family there was an ad saying that this certain dance school was fully inclusive for special needs.

I phoned and enquired and dd went down yesterday for a taster morning.

The lady that runs it goes into a local sn school and does dance and drama with the children.

It is mainly ms but there were sn children there and they were fully included.

Dd managed to do 3 hours, which included drama, modern/tap and ballet. I was stunned that she coped with it. This time last year 10 minutes would have been enough.

I honestly think people's attitudes to our children make a huge difference. Dd was interacting with the others and I am so proud of her. She will be doing exams and shows and being the little entertainer that she is will love it I am sure.

The lady that runs it is fantastic and rang me last night to say how talented dd is and she thinks she will do well.

The first session they do is purely for sn and they work on their co-ordination skills.

It's almost too good to be true. They so obviously want to be fully inclusive, it's just a shame more places aren't like it and for the first time ever I felt completely relaxed.

I could have cried yesterday I was so happy. Finally I have found something that is for dd and I know she will benefit. Seeing her in her ballet stuff with all the other little girls was honestly something I thought would never happen!

Even better I can use her dp's to pay for it!

coppertop · 17/09/2006 15:41

It sounds like the perfect place.

To feel as though she has been accepted is just such a lovely feeling. I can honestly say that the owner obviously bends over backwards regarding children with disabilities and it is only a shame that a lot of other organisations don't follow suit!

Lovely to read your post BH

Very happy for you and your dd, bh. Excellent news. Maybe one day you could encourage the teacher to do an article for distribution to the dancing trade magazines to outline her approach etc. etc.

Hope she does really well.

mumeeee · 17/09/2006 21:51

How lovely to have found a place that sounds so perfect for your dd.

Still going strong. One week she does tap and ballet and the next drama and singing.
She is making friends and they are practising for the show in February.
Finally I have found somewhere that I feel she fits in and it feels great
