Since my son started displaying behaviours I kept a log/ diary I now have 3 !! when I go to the beginning of the process shall I just hand them over to the professional we see to read at leisure ? Also I have videos ?!

Has anyone done this before ?! Was wondering wether to put on a USB stick ?

Thanks :)

Ooops Blush

Not silly at all but I agree with polter about summarising. Also get a chart/picture of the triad of impairments and relate what you have observed to them.

I am sure you will be asked to give examples of his behaviours and if you have some in front if you it will really help you.

During Dd3's assessment process we saw many proffs, I know of 3 that read my diaries and they were the ones who took my concerns seriously and ultimately the ones who mainly contributed to her being diagnosed.

Good luck Smile

I would say why not start with the triad of impairments. Pick out what describes has behaviour - main characteristics. then pick a couple of brief oneline examples of this.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 06/08/2014 21:49

sorry. examples of each of them

I would summarise it and split it up into categories. Things like:

Eating & Drinking

Sleep

Toileting (if applicable)

Going Out

Behaviour with other children

Behaviour at School/Pre-school/Groups (depending on his age)

I would have a shorter report to hand over and also write a longer list of bullet points for your own reference during appointments. If you're anything like me Blush your mind may go blank when asked questions.

I had a video of ds2 and the professionals involved in the assessment asked if they could keep a copy. It was no more than about 5 minutes long though, and showed how he went from perfectly calm to a raging meltdown in just a few seconds.
