DAFOs?

My daughter Freja is high functioning autistic and is being genetically tested. Well her most recent thing she's seeing someone for is her foot. Her left foot is so pronated that she walks almost on her ankle. on the 27th she's seeing an orthopaedic surgeon. We had a Physical Therapist asess her from First Steps and he said he wants to see her in a DAFO. I've done some researching but still have some questions if anyone here would mind answering.

sparkly knows about AFo'as and DAFO's, she is away this weekend, so will try and answer.

TY I appreciate it. My big thing though is will Freja be able to wear regular trainers? Will I just need to buy a bigger size?

larger size, and velcros strapped ones work better as they are a bit bulky on the straps. but that doesnt mean she cant wear pretty shoes, neice has loads of pretty shoes.

the good thing about them is you wont have to take freja shoe shopping, you can just take the DAFO lol.

That would work out great. We can't do laces. Ty and I love the thought of not taking Freja shoe shopping. This kid LOVES shoes. She wants all kinds of shoes.

I've seen mention of putting socks on under the brace also. Are thin socks the best for this? Sorry for all the questions but since we're going to need new shoes I've got to save up for them

are the DAFO's the ankle ones, or the ones right upto the knee? i always get confused.

with the ones upto the knee, get long socks, as they can rub at first. the ankle ones just buy normal socks, as long as they are mega thick hiking type socks, you'll be fine. primark socks are good.

HTH.

We managed fine with ordinary socks and tights when DD had some AFOs. I did find some shoes or trainers were too shallow to fit the AFO - it was just a case of trying on a few to find the best fit, but we had no real problem and just bought a larger size to accommodate them. Good luck.

The DAFOs are the ankle ones. TY again for your help hun!

I have some more questions. Freja trips a lot. I mean all the time. She refuses to walk more then 5 minutes at a time. Adn will hold her foot and tell me 'it hurts' Are these all likely tied into the pronation thing? She cannot walk up and down stairs, can't jump, and runs but then falls or complains of pain
