Help in school

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the SN's section and could do with some advice.

My DS has just started school and is really struggling. He has various behavioural issues which have been apparent since he was very young. He has never been formally assessed but the school are talking about a SENCO assessing him with a view to getting extra support.

At the moment he is only going about 1 hour per day (I suspect to make things easier for the teacher to deal with the others in his class).

I asked whether this was similar to a statement but was told that it was just an emergency measure that the school could put in place for up to 3 months.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks

HI reliantrobin,

I haven't had personal experience of this, however was a SENCO in a primary school. Statementing is a very long process and therefore the school are obviously trying to find ways of supporting your Ds as well as supporting all the other children that have just started school.
Have you had a meeting with the school to discuss your sons needs and your own concerns? If you haven't then i suggest that you ask for one asap. Don't worry though, they obviously have his best interests at heart if they want to assess him to get more support.
