SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

I want to make a "Distraction Box" for ds at school. Does this sound like a good idea, and what else should I put in it?

Trying to put things into place for ds at school to make it less stressful for him.
School keep taking what I say, then putting their own twist on strategies and make it into a punishment for ds.

The latest thing is to try to let ds have a break between the first two lessons, where usually there is no break. An ASD expert (10 months experience) has said this must be 5 minutes on his own in silence with nothing to do, so he has a break from any stimulus.

I know ds well, and I know that he will hate this, he hates silence, he hates being on his own, it will feel like a punishment and it will make him angry.

So, I have come up with a plan.
I will provide school with a box of things for him to do during this break, and at any other time if things are getting too much. Ds needs distracting to calm down, not shunting away to sit quietly seething at what his teacher has done to him

So far I've come up with things like books about things he likes (birds, reptiles, insects), some top trumps cards, some fiddle toy thingys.

Does this sound like a good idea?
What else could I put in it, or should I be suggesting other things for school to do?

Thank you.
I've added both of those to my wish list, and found mini slinkies and stretchy lizards, which would go down well!
