Ds (dyspraxia plus a whole host if other stuff) handwriting isn't great, he's 11 and up until, this year he's only every managed a sentence a day in school. New school, new approach and he's managing a page of A4 but the writing is messy.

Can anyone recommend a writing intervention I can do with him over the holidays to help him.

Im using Write from the Start (a few books that come together) which my DD likes because it works on the different elements that help without practice of actual letters. You can look it up on Amazon. It has a good intro that explains how it helps.

But, I dont know if it might be too basic for your ds. My DD is 5.8 but Im only on book 1 and I think there are 3 books.

That's a fantastic link. He can type but he's slow so we are working on this.

He's a perfectionist so we've been struggling as he wouldn't write as he couldn't read it so we where in vicious circle. He's getting better as he can now read it but it's still messy and next year (yr 7) the work will ramp up so need to try and make a difference.

I'd see the amazon one but thought it might be too basic but if it starts basic he might be more enthusiastic

We've gone down the touch typing route with my ds1 (diagnosed with dyspraxia). He's only 8, but I realised that for him, handwriting might get a bit better, but never enough for him to really write fluently, meanwhile he was getting a lot of negative feedback from teachers, and I was worried about him totally disengaging from school. If he seems ok with typing, it might be worth teaching him to touch type and focus on that? Did wonders for my ds' self esteem. There's no real reason why they have to handwrite rather than type in this day and age, I feel.

Having said that, some on here say their dc actually find typing harder, not easier. Especially if you have super-bendy joints?? Not too sure, but I guess you could give it a go, and your ds will soon let you know if he's feeling uncomfortable with it. If he's a perfectionist, it might help as he won't be dissatisfied with the neatness of his typing, at any rate.
