On the way home from school ds1 said to dh nobody wants to play with me. He has adhd and suspected aspergers and he doesnt really answer many questions about school. Im feeling a bit worried tbh.

Sorry 2mum... I dont have much experience of children with SN, but when any child says that to you it is heartbreaking.
Hopefully things will settle down soon (assuming he has just started school).
Hope someone with better words of wisdom than me will come along soon and help you.

Hiya 2mum,
My nephew has suspected aspergers and lacks socialisation skills. He didnt really have any special friends until he was in reception yr 2. My sister invited some boys around to the house etc and spoke to a few of the mums and he has now got a small circle of good friends.

Sorry i couldntg be any more use to you but wanted you to know that i had read it and was thinking of you

I was thinking of having a word with his teacher or assistant to see if they know. He never talks about school, he doesnt like getting asked questions. I wish i could invite some kids over for ds to play with but with ds1 and his wee brother whos autistic i dont think i could cope with any more kids in my house!

Hi Dinosaur, ds1 loves bible stories so i think he would like to be involved with a church, sunday school or something. Thanks for the suggestion. As for friends kids, none of the friends i still see have kids yet unfortunately. there are kids where i live but also lots of busy roads and my son has on a number of occasions walked out on to the road. He hasnt got a good sense of danger yet.

Hi 2mum, my ds who has HFA also doesn't answer any questions about school which I find very difficult as I'd love to know how he's coping with school and if he has any friends to play with at playtime. I really can understand how incredibly sad it is to hear your ds say that he has no friends.

I dont know of any mumsnetters where i live. In rl im quite a shy and private person. The friends i have i have known for years. Im going to speak to his classroom asisstant and find out whats happening, and if other kids are playing with him. Its hard to find out things from him because youre not sure if he understands what your asking him as he always changes the subject when hes asked about school.

Is he upset about no friends or just making an observation? My niece wasn't diagnosed with as til age 10. She didn't want to play with the other kids rather than other way round. She wasn't upset by lack of friends so it was more upsetting to us until we understood. Now she is at secondary school, she is happy. She has some friends but isn't as complicated about it as girls tend to be at that stage!

Its not bad news after all. I was speaking to my sons assistant at school. And she didnt know why he had said that, she said maybe one of the kids didnt want chased or something. As ds1 likes chasing in the playground. She said he does interact with the other kids in the classroom and playground. So ive getting myself paranoid over nothing!
