SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Am I wrong to be so flamin' happy that our parental appeal is accepted and DS1 is undergoing statutory assessment?

Just so flamin' relieved I suppose! Headteacher and SENco had no doubts whatsoever!

2 years ago I was an over-anxious parent!

Congratulations :)

Do you mind me asking how old your child is now, interesting to hear the school are now being supportive.

Hi Babies (and thanks others :-) )

DS1 is now 8 (Yr 3).

Nursery wasn't too bad a year. Major area of concern in school was food (as it was at home). I was already seeking advice at this point. 2 weeks in and nursery teacher said he either couldn't hear or was ignoring her (both! = grommets sorted hearing part).

Reception year - learning was very slow, didn't access the curriculum until the end of reception. clothing issues, seemed to play alone.

yr 1 various things came to light. he would come home and explode basically. Looking back he showed signs of literal interpretation (not doing as he was asked), processing issues (as previous), social/communication issues (rude), and defiance (literal interpretation (go in the corner and read a book! no, why? cos I can't read!)) sat aong during playtimes alone!

yr 2 - all of the above and more intensified

Year 3 all the above and OCD! which he had shown signs of before in school. just that they weren't recognised.

Now making very little progress' hes at level 2 in year 3 which I know isn't dead bad but not gr8 and is actually not improving now. he is also refusing (too upset) to take part in many activities.

TBH. In yr 2 I went to HT. that's when we got the diagnosis (1 of 5) for DS1. I think 2 points were significant. I) a phone call to parent partnership when they actually rang the head and had a word. also 2) CAMHS professionals phoning school and supporting at Multi agency meetings.

NOW, we have full support!!!

Oops when I said we have full support I only mean support from School to get help. They do now admit he's a complex child and they don't know what to do/how to help/cope.

Well done. I was delighted when ds's was approved, and it does make sense when you've struggled.

Great news. Hopefully you are now well on the road to further support.

Not wrong at all!
